Jayden Daniels seems to be on a bounce-back mission after his first couple of seasons with the Commanders did not look so good. Washington does not look so good as a team right now, languishing at the bottom of the barrel in the NFC East which is being currently ruled by the – wait for it – the Giants. But, Daniels’ performance has been quite promising overall.
Let’s look at the latest game played against New York. The game which ended in a tie should have actually been an easy win for Daniels & co. The win was stolen from Washington, not by the Giants and not by one of their own players, but by the clock! The team failed to get kicker Drew Stevens on to the field before the seconds ran out, resulting in Daniels taking an unnecessary and unsuccessful snap.
The Commanders have been trolled mercilessly since the major fumble, with Daniels stating that the fault was on him. However, the quarterback also pointed out that the team needs to do better in terms of ‘situational football’ in the presser, something which caught my attention.
“We just have to be better. We all have to be better. Situational football. Starts with me. Everybody will say the same thing, but we have to be better at situational football.” Jayden Daniels said.
Jayden Daniels was obviously talking about the ability of a team to play the way the game demands, instead of sticking to their routines. This is what situational football is at the end of the day. While it is something simple enough to state, it is quite difficult to implement.
If the Commanders and coach Dan Quinn hope to play situational football in the upcoming games, the team will need to work on their decision-making skills. Decisions will need to be made in split-seconds, which require more than just mental toughness.
Jayden Daniels’ Commanders Will Need To Up Their Ante, Fast

Jayden Daniels was spot on when he spoke about the importance of the Commanders understanding situational football. Considering that the next game will take place in a few days against undefeated San Francisco 49ers, Washington will need to bring in shortcuts to help improve their cognitive processing skills.
The best way to do this would be to bring ‘deliberate chaos’ into the picture. The players will be playing with constant changes to the script. This will not only make them shaper but also more resilient to take on the biggies from San Francisco next week.
