The attention on Cunningham has only increased all the more after she ended up as Caitlin Clark’s unofficial side-kick in the Fever. The baller managed to bring even more attention to herself with her controversial opinions and takes on social issues, which got her the ‘MAGA Barbie’ nickname.
Whether you like Cunningham or not, it is clear that the hooper is in the WNBA for a reason. The hooper’s free-throwing skills and intense defense skills make her a true menace on the court. She might be a free-agent right now but is sure to be picked up by another franchise soon.
With this in mind, I want to highlight what President Donald Trump said about Sophie at his rally in Ohio. The POTUS did not talk about Cunningham’s game, but essentially said that people flock to Fever games to watch the baller just for her looks.
“We like Sophie Cunningham. You have a lot of men wanting to go and watch her, she is beautiful… You probably would not mind having her on your team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance.” The President said.
The POTUS’ comments did get many tickled, considering that he inadvertently dissed Sophie Cunningham by stating that fans only flock in to see her for her attractiveness and not exactly her basketball. However, it also sheds light on just how female athletes are still seen in today’s world.
I see a lot of difference in the way that male athletes treat their sports and vice-versa, and how female athletes treat their game and vice-versa. There has been a lot of change of perspectives in the recent past, but Trump’s views indicate that there is still plenty do when it comes to changing the way female athletes are viewed today.

Meanwhile, Sophie Cunningham getting dissed by the POTUS of all has been receiving plenty of approval from social media since the remarks went viral. That even Donald Trump would feel that Cunningham is not such a great player says volumes about just how much improvement she needs on the court.
Cunningham is currently an unrestricted free agent and is desperately on the hunt for another team. But, before she enters a new basketball season with a new team, she might need to put in more time on the court, rather than looking up the next controversial issue to add her own controversial take to it.
