Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are in deep mire right now, with the Super Bowl LIX winners riding a disappointing three-game losing streak. The team only broke even more hearts in the recent game against the Jags in London, with the game being lost with a miniscule difference as a result of poor time management. More often than not, teams struggle on the field because they don’t make the right decisions based on the clock.

While the defeat was quite disappointing to witness, it was the post-defeat events that made me wonder if Philadelphia is too deep in trouble to recover at this point. Hurts admitted feeling that he should have spoken up after Sirianni made a coaching blunder in the last few seconds of the game. On the other side, we had Sirianni emphasized that Hurts plays while he coaches.

“When I’m up at night, yeah, I think about, ‘Man, should I have said something, or should I have took a step back and said, ‘Wait’?” Jalen Hurts said after the defeat.

“Jalen’s playing. We’re coaching and calling the plays, and Jalen’s got to go execute what we call in that moment, 100 percent. We’re not asking him to play calls in that scenario…” Nick Sirianni said much later on.

When Jalen Hurts, as the starting quarterback, doubts whether he is allowed to speak up, and when his head coach emphasizes that the player’s job is to only play without questioning, it certainly does not spell good news for the Eagles.

In the light of these contrasting remarks, I wonder what type of coaching culture the Philadelphia locker room is vibing with right now. Sirianni might have a pretty solid resume to back his coaching decisions. However, the players too, bring a ton of experience with them, especially with Hurts being in the Eagles camp since 2020. If Sirianni’s style is indeed quite autocratic, Birds fans might as well lock up their hopes for this season and throw away the key.

Jalen Hurts’ Run-Game Is A Crucial Issue The Eagles Need To Address

On another note, Jalen Hurts’ running-game seems to have dipped all the more in this ongoing season. Hurts running ability is one of the many success factors that the quarterback brings to the table, but unfortunately the man hasn’t been able to use his legs at all since he won the Super Bowl.

Hurts did openly state that he hopes to reduce his running-game for his health concerns last year. But some are speculating that it might possibly stem from bad decisions from the coaching side. It more and more seems like the Eagles have plenty of internal issues to fix if they dream of winning another Super Bowl anytime soon.
