Indiana Fever player wearing number 0 dribbles past a defender

Kelsey Mitchell has been the driving force behind the Fever this year if you ask me. Mitchell established herself as the lead scorer for Indiana right from the start of the campaign and with Caitlin Clark’s support the duo soon became the engine for the team.

Mitchell will soon be a free agent and there are already many worries that the baller might indeed leave Indiana. The hooper has been with the Fever for nine whole seasons and her recent remarks drops massive hints that she would actually like to look at other options other than pursuing her career with Indiana at the moment.

“I think I have to be selfish. I think that’s where I am in my career, about what I probably need and what’s probably best for me.” Kelsey Mitchell said during the Fever’s exit interview.

Kelsey Mitchell did not stop there and went on to explain her viewpoint as Caitlin Clark’s teammate. Clark is obviously a phenomenon in the league and the main reason why Fever tickets sell out in minutes. This also means that the entire Fever team plays under plenty of scrutiny, leading to plenty of trolling and criticism.

Mitchell clearly does not like this and admitted that all of this attention has frustrated her, mental health-wise. If Mitchell is truly intent on leaving the Fever for her emotional and financial needs, the baller will need to ask herself these questions:

  • Am I willing to share the spotlight with a star player in this new team, just like I did with Caitlin Clark in the Fever?
  • At the same time, will I be able to carve out a unique identity for myself in this new team?
  • Does the fan-base of this new team give more support to their players than what I experienced with the Fever?

Kelsey Mitchell Asking For ‘Grace’ Gets Mixed Opinions

In the same exit interview, Kelsey Mitchell also asked fans for ‘grace’ when she highlighted the intense media scrutiny that she and the other Fever players face on a daily basis. Basically, she wants the fans to go easy on her and her mates.

Kelsey Mitchell & Indiana Fever Last Year

While I understand that sports fans can many times act in the craziest of manners, asking them to do what they are supposed to do isn’t something a professional athlete should say. Fans are supposed to cheer, troll, support and mock players, including their own players. From her recent comments, it seems like Mitchell might need to work with someone to get her perspectives on fans and the pressure they bring before she makes her decision about her future.
